Cookie Policy

Lex Prep | Operated by Jobbit Ltd

Last updated: 13 June 2026

This cookie policy explains how Jobbit Ltd ("we", "us", "our") uses cookies and similar technologies on the Lex Prep platform at lex-prep.uk (the "Platform"). It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy.

This policy complies with the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR) and the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR).

1. What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files placed on your device by a website. They are widely used to make websites work, to remember your preferences, and to collect information about how you interact with a site.

"Similar technologies" include mechanisms such as browser local storage (localStorage and sessionStorage), which serve comparable purposes to cookies but are stored differently by your browser.

2. How we use cookies and local storage

The Platform currently uses browser local storage and session storage rather than traditional cookies for its core functions. Local storage works in a similar way to cookies but the data stays on your device and is not sent to our servers with each request.

We may also set cookies on your device from time to time for essential operational purposes. The categories below describe all the storage technologies we use or may use.

Strictly necessary storage

These are essential for the Platform to function. Without them, you would not be able to log in or use the Platform. They fall within the "strictly necessary" exception in paragraph 4 of Schedule A1 to PECR and do not require your consent. When you log in with "Remember this device" turned on, the two items below are kept in persistent local storage as described. When that option is turned off, the same two items are kept in session storage instead, so they are cleared automatically when you close the browser tab rather than persisting.

Storage item Type Purpose Duration
lexprep_token Local or session storage Holds your authentication session token so you remain logged in between visits. Sent to our server via an HTTP header with each request. With "Remember this device" on: until you log out, or 30 days from creation, whichever is sooner. With it off: until you close the browser tab.
lexprep_user Local or session storage Stores your user ID, username, account tier, and onboarding status locally so the Platform can display your account information without making an extra server request on each page load. With "Remember this device" on: until you log out. With it off: until you close the browser tab.

Functional storage

These remember choices you make so the Platform appears or behaves the way you prefer. They are not essential, but they improve usability. They fall within paragraph 6 of Schedule A1 to PECR (adapting how the Platform appears or functions to your preferences). This policy is the notice required by that paragraph. You can object at any time by clearing the relevant local-storage entries through your browser settings (see section 4).

Storage item Type Purpose Duration
theme Local storage Remembers your chosen colour theme (light or dark) so it persists between sessions. Persistent until cleared.
lexprep_reader_speed Local storage Stores your preferred text-to-speech reading speed. Persistent until cleared.
lexprep_reader_volume Local storage Stores your preferred text-to-speech volume level. Persistent until cleared.
reader-width Local storage Remembers your preferred reading pane width (narrow, comfortable, or wide). Persistent until cleared.
lexprep_sidebar_collapsed Local storage Remembers whether you have collapsed the sidebar into its icon-rail state. Persistent until cleared.

Session storage

These items are held in session storage, which your browser clears automatically when you close the tab. They support specific one-off behaviours and are never sent to our servers.

Storage item Type Purpose Duration
lexprep_kick_reason Session storage Records the reason your session ended when you are signed out because the same account signed in on another device. It is read once to show you a short message, then removed. Until read, or until you close the tab.
lexprep_mobile_wip_dismissed Session storage Remembers that you have dismissed the one-time notice about mobile support on small screens, so it does not show again in the same session. Until you close the tab.

Cookies we may introduce

We do not currently set any cookies. If we introduce cookies in the future (for example, for hosting infrastructure, security, or session management reasons), we will update this policy before doing so and, where required by law, obtain your consent before setting any non-essential cookies.

Possible future uses could include:

Essential cookies. Cookies set by our hosting provider (Fly.io) for load balancing, routing, or security purposes. These would be strictly necessary and would not require consent.

Performance or analytics cookies. If we ever introduce analytics tools to understand how the Platform is used in aggregate, we will seek your consent before setting any such cookies and update this policy with full details. We will not use any analytics tool that shares data with advertisers or third-party data brokers.

We will never use advertising cookies, tracking cookies, or cookies from social media platforms.

3. Third-party cookies

The Platform itself does not embed any third-party content, scripts, analytics, advertising, social media widgets, or tracking technologies on its own pages. No third-party cookies are set by the Platform on lex-prep.uk.

Stripe Checkout. When you start a subscription or manage your payment method, you are redirected from the Platform to Stripe's hosted checkout page (operated by Stripe Payments Europe Limited). Stripe sets its own cookies on its own domain (such as checkout.stripe.com) to process your payment securely and to prevent fraud. Those cookies are controlled by Stripe under its own privacy and cookie notice at https://stripe.com/privacy. We do not control or have access to Stripe's cookies. After payment, you are returned to the Platform and no Stripe cookies are set on lex-prep.uk.

If anything else changes in the future, we will update this policy and, where required, obtain your consent.

4. How to manage local storage and cookies

You can clear local storage data for the Platform through your browser's developer tools or site settings. If you logged in with "Remember this device" on, clearing local storage will also log you out. Clearing it will reset your preferences (theme, reading speed, reading volume, reading pane width, and sidebar state). If you logged in with "Remember this device" off, your login is held in session storage instead and is cleared when you close the browser tab.

Most browsers also allow you to manage cookies through their settings. You can block or delete cookies, but this should not affect your use of the Platform at present since we do not currently rely on cookies.

For instructions on managing cookies and local storage in common browsers:

5. Your rights

Under UK GDPR, you have rights in relation to any personal data stored through cookies or local storage. See our Privacy Policy for full details of your rights and how to exercise them.

6. Changes to this policy

We will update this policy if we change the cookies or storage technologies we use. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.

If we introduce any cookies that require your consent, we will implement a cookie consent mechanism on the Platform and will not set those cookies until you have given your consent.
